When deciding on rotations, some coaches prefer to stagger starter minutes, always keeping one or two key players on the court at once. Other coaches prefer “bench mob” units, using four-to-five bench players at once, buying time while the starters take a rest.
It appears coach Dwayne Casey prefers the latter, and it is working for the Toronto Raptors. Coach Casey’s bench mob units are not just being used to buy time, but are actually gaining significant ground on opponents.
The four-man lineup combination of Delon Wright, Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, and Jakob Poeltl has played 268 minutes, the sixth most minutes on the team and the most of any four-man combinations that does not consist entirely of starters.
