Now that we’re 100 starts and 173 games into OG Anunoby’s NBA career, you’d think we’d have a better grasp on the kind of player the Raptors have found in their 22-year-old forward.
A couple of autumns ago, after all, there were those around the franchise that saw Anunoby and Pascal Siakam in a roughly similar light: A pair of athletic freaks with the kind of upside that was difficult to estimate only because it was so massive. But while Siakam spent last season taking off — and taking home the league’s most improved player trophy — Anunoby’s development was stifled by a nightmare of sad circumstance, including the death of his father and complications stemming from appendicitis that kept him out of the playoffs.
