Summer League is a chance for Raptors like Malachi Flynn, Scottie Barnes to make strides

The first thing to remember about the NBA’s Summer League is that it’s the NBA’s off-season league for young players, prospects and suspects.

One adage suggests you don’t find out who can play in the weeklong series of exhibition games but you certainly find out who can’t play.

That said, it is part of the long developmental process for young players and allows teams to measure draft picks and possible G Leaguers against others in the same circumstances.

Sometimes, you strike gold, as the Raptors did with Fred VanVleet. Most of the time, you tread water and hope for incremental improvement.
