Steady Freddy VanVleet has become the Raptors’ new No. 1

If Game 1 of another Raptors playoff run taught us anything, it’s that eliminating the Brooklyn Nets might not be particularly onerous.

But as for the not-so-small feat of topping Toronto’s playoff-opening broadcast touches — an “O Canada” sung from the CN Tower and starting-lineup introductions performed by members of players’ families — well, that’ll require some seriously heavy lifting.

The latter, especially, was a heart-strings-tugging bit of game-ops genius that clearly touched the Toronto players who have been away from their loved ones for most of two months. And it was newsworthy, too. Certainly it was about time that the world laid eyes on Fred VanVleet Jr.
