Stars like Cavs’ James have earned the benefit of the doubt

Best players are more likely to be on the right side of foul calls.

Cleveland's LeBron James, left, went to the foul line 21 times in Game 2 of the East semifinal; the Raptors were there 19 times as a team.

They are the most contentious of calls in an NBA game — those 50-50 situations where maybe it’s a foul and maybe it’s not — and invariably the call goes in favour of the higher profile player.

Coaches whose player doesn’t get the benefit of the whistle get all up in arms, players react expressively, and some fans lose their minds and figure it’s all rigged anyway.
