Tchamo Siakam loved basketball — loved it for the opportunities it could afford his three sons, for its beauty as a sport and for the future it could provide for generations of his kin.
The mayor of Makenene, Cameroon, dreamed of the day one of his offspring would truly make it. Three of his sons tried to buck the odds but fell short of the ultimate goal, not for a lack of effort but because it’s a long and difficult journey few ever complete.
That left Pascal, the youngest of six kids in the family — “the baby, the spoiled one,” he jokes — to fulfill his father’s dream.
