It’s impossible to clearly define what constitutes good leadership on any team because there are so many different ways it can manifest itself.
A leader is not always the loudest player on the court or in the locker room; and a leader doesn’t necessarily have to be the best athlete or the flashiest. The title cannot be simply bestowed on someone — “hey, you’re our leader, go lead” — because it’s an earned trait. It comes with respect and with the way people comport themselves within the team dynamic.
With the Raptors, it’s increasingly coming in the person of a smallish guard who has defied the doubts of others every step of the way, a young man who has earned every accolade he receives, who handles himself professionally and without much fanfare, and whose confidence and determination his teammates can learn from.
