Dwane Casey called it “the scariest game” before it even began, and then watched as the Toronto Raptors scared the bejeebers out of the fans at the Air Canada Centre on Sunday.
With no enthusiasm to start the game, and precious little after an energetic backup group got them within striking distance late, the starters have the head coach starting to wonder how effective they actually are.
“Our starts have been horrendous,” Casey said after the Raptors dropped a 107-96 decision to the Washington Wizards, who were without all-star guard John Wall. “We talked about the travel situation, how tough it is to find energy and professionalism and playing with a purpose once you come back off a long road trip, and evidently it didn’t sink in.
