I’m always intrigued by the perception NBA commentators have of the Toronto Raptors, both of our team and our city. To take the latter first, I still stumble across articles describing Toronto as a small market. If the writers of such rubbish took about 30 seconds to do some research, they would realize how silly they are making themselves look.
A few years ago, when the NBA was grappling with severe financial issues, our team was a popular candidate for contraction in the online press. There were people sincerely advocating the extinction of our franchise because of non-performance.
