NBA leaders will vote on an elaborate return-to-play proposal that includes 22 teams, a truncated resumption of the suspended regular season and a full round of playoffs to crown a champion sometime in October, according to reports.
The league’s board of governors is to meet virtually on Thursday to vote on the final proposal from commissioner Adam Silver.
Among the details reported today by various publications citing sources:
- 22 teams — nine from the Eastern Conference and 13 from the Western Conference;
- An eight-game “regular season” to establish playoff seedings;
- The possibility of a “play-in” tournament for the final playoff spot in each conference for teams within four games of eighth place;
There are still issues to be leaked or announced, such as how the league will determine which teams will meet in the “regular season” portion of the return to play.
