Miscommunication regarding the availability of Kyle Lowry and OG Anunoby for Friday’s Raptors game against the Orlando Magic has cost the franchise a $25,000 (U.S.) fine.
The NBA hit the team with the penalty Saturday evening for “failing to comply with league policies governing player rest and injury reporting.”
The Raptors had said as early as Thursday that both Lowry and Anunoby — along with Pascal Siakam — would sit out against Orlando for “rest,” and that’s how their status was reported on the league’s public injury report throughout Friday.
However, coach Nick Nurse said before Friday’s game that Anunoby was experiencing some swelling in his knee, and a chronic foot infection was bothering Lowry.
