NBA coaches rate refs after heat of the moment

WASHINGTON—There is much for an NBA coach to do in the immediate aftermath of a game, when emotions are running high and adrenaline is coursing through the body.

They need to collect their thoughts enough to chat with their assistants before addressing the team. Then there are media obligations, often while still hyped from the game and unable or unwilling to break down specific possessions, because they haven’t had time to fully digest what’s occurred in the cauldron of the action.

And now there are more duties with longer-term implications that every coach has to go through.
