Jama Mahlalela returns to Raptors as Darko Rajakovic starts filling out coaching staff

Jama Mahlalela is coming home.

The Toronto native, a former Raptors assistant and Raptors 905 head coach, will join Darko Rajakovic’s Toronto staff, team and league sources confirmed.

Pat Delany, a long-time assistant in Charlotte, Orlando and Washington, is also among the first hires Rajakovic has made since he became the 10th Raptors head coach.

Mahlalela, who worked with the Raptors and their G League affiliate from 2013-21, has spent the last two seasons on the staff of the Golden State Warriors. While the 43-year-old, Swaziland-born Mahlalela is known for his player development skills, to pigeonhole him solely as a teacher rather than a tactician would be unfair.
