On July 5, 2012, after weeks of discussions with the Houston Rockets, ones that even included swapping their eighth overall pick for the guard, the Toronto Raptors finally struck a deal to acquire Kyle Lowry.
In the return for Lowry, the Rockets got Gary Forbes, who never played a game for the team, along with a draft pick that ended up being the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.
With the draft pick, the Rockets were able to swing a franchise-altering trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder for 2017-2018 NBA MVP James Harden.
