While the win and the streak were both impressive, the Toronto Maple Leafs will have to keep focused on the fact that this streak is buoyed by goaltending in the .960% range. This means that the wins aren’t coming because the team is playing great, but because they’re getting incredible goaltending.
To put it in perspective, .930% is Vezina Quality goaltending. Three tenths of a percentage point might not seem like much, but .900 will get you a one-way ticket to the AHL, so in reality, it’s a large number given the range.
So while the Leafs should be happy with their wins, they should keep in mind that a team’s chance of winning drops dramatically when you allow over 35 shots.
