Thornton injured as Leafs fall to Oilers

In a game that clearly did not live up to its billing as a potential scoring-fest, the Leafs fell 3-1 to the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night.

Auston Matthews had the only goal for the Leafs, and Connor McDavid was held off the scoresheet – just over one year removed from his dazzling end-to-end goal he netted at Scotiabank Arena in Edmonton’s only visit last season.

Joe Thornton left the game with an apparent wrist injury in the third period. Coach Sheldon Keefe said Thornton is expected to “miss some time.”
