Leafs fall to Habs in OT, Matthews scores pair

Andrew Shaw scored 1:06 into overtime to give the Montreal Canadiens a 3-2 victory over the Maple Leafs before the customary Saturday night sellout crowd at Air Canada Centre.

The win by Toronto’s most loathed historic rival overshadowed a two-goal effort from Auston Matthews. The Leafs’ Calder Trophy contender became the third rookie to reach the 30-goal plateau in franchise history, after Wendel Clark (1985-86) and Daniel Marois (1988-89).

“We move forward. This was obviously a big game, two pretty big rivals,” Matthews said to reporters after the game. “I thought we played a pretty outstanding game.
