In the midst of an injury crisis at Toronto FC, a younger, fresh-faced group of Reds is taking on the team’s charge.
Affectionately dubbed “the Torontots” online, the young group of players includes the like of striker Jordan Hamilton, 20, midfielder Jay Chapman, 22, and goalkeeper Alex Bono, 22.
In all, nine players under the age of 25 represented Toronto on Wednesday night in its 1-1 draw with Columbus Crew.
Hamilton and Chapman combined to create the Reds’ tying goal; it was the Brampton native’s third in six league games.
With injuries to the likes of goalkeeper Clint Irwin, defender Steven Beitashour and midfielders Michael Bradley and Will Johnson among others, many of that younger crew should also factor into Toronto’s visit to the San Jose Earthquakes, who sit eighth in the Western Conference, Saturday night.
