‘We’ve got to move on.’ Toronto FC has seen better days, but the next coach will have a head start

There were stops and starts and plenty of hurdles to clear in 2020, but Toronto FC will head into the new year staring down even bigger challenges.

The Reds were two games into Major League Soccer’s regular season when the season ground to a halt because of the coronavirus pandemic. They didn’t return to the field until July, then bowed out of the MLS is Back tournament in Orlando after just one win in four games.

An 18-game stretch from mid-August to the playoffs saw better results on the field, but was a grind off it with the team forced to call East Hartford home for the most part because of border restrictions.
