USL returns with the opening weekend of action featuring a few familiar faces from Toronto FC

The 2019 USL Championship season kicked off on Friday night with a full slate of matches set to be played throughout the weekend. And though Toronto FC II will not be involved – USL League One gets underway in April – a few familiar faces will be entering the fray with new teams.

Luca Uccello and Malik Johnson opted in the offseason to leave the club where they rose up the ranks over the years to remain at the Championship level: Uccello with Memphis 901 FC and Johnson with the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

And serendipitously enough, the two could meet each other on opening day as expansion Memphis plays their first-ever home match on Saturday night against Tampa Bay at 6:30 p.
