Toronto FC’s Alejandro Pozuelo named to 2019 MLS Best XI; has award delivered by son

TORONTO, Ont.—This honour was decided prior to last week’s magic in New York City, but if you wanted a reason to justify Toronto FC designated player Alejandro Pozuelo’s involvement in the 2019 MLS Best XI, look no further.

The Spaniard, who touched down at BMO Field in March in spectacular fashion against the very same New York City FC club, took the Eastern Conference leaders out of the MLS Cup Playoffs on Wednesday the same way he came in: scoring twice against the Boys in Blue, capped off by a audacious 90th-minute Paneka.

In his first season in North America, the Spaniard appeared in 30 regular-season MLS matches, registering a club-leading 12 goals and 12 assists, despite playing at various roles in a rather unstable starting XI.
