Toronto FC to open 2020 MLS season with road game against San Jose

Toronto FC will begin the 2020 Major League Soccer season on the road Feb. 29 at San Jose before hosting New York City FC in its home opener on March 7.

MLS announced the opening games for each team on Thursday, with the complete schedule for next year to be released at a later date.

The league is expanding to 26 teams in 2020 with the additions of Miami and Nashville but will keep a 34-game regular-season schedule. A team will play each of its 12 conference opponents home and away, but will face only 10 of the 13 teams in the other conference, breaking away from soccer’s tradition of having each team play every opponent in its league.
