Tsubasa Endoh is the newest Red, after Toronto FC selected the Japanese midfielder with the club’s first pick in Thursday’s MLS SuperDraft.
The University of Maryland attacking midfielder, a Tokyo native, was recently named the MVP of the 2016 adidas MLS Player Combine.
He was initially projected as a second-round selection.
At just 5-foot-7 and weighing about 140 pounds, Endoh will be one of Toronto smallest players. He has competed with the Japanese national team at the under-12 through under-17 levels.
Endoh appeared in 83 games for the Terps during his four years of university, scoring nine goals and adding 14 assists.
