Both Toronto FC and the Montreal Impact won their semifinal matches on the road Sunday, completing sweeps of their respective two-leg series. It will be the first time either club has advance to the two-leg conference final.
Already in the driver’s seat after a 2-0 win at BMO Field last Sunday, Toronto beat New York City FC 5-0 on Yankee Stadium’s diminutive field to take the series by a 7-0 aggregate score.
Toronto FC’s travelling support group, about 300 red-clad fans largely clustered in a single section behind where home plate would normally be, were in full voice, at times drowning out the rest of crowd of 28,355 despite being without drums.
