A day after the announcement rang out over the BMO Field loudspeaker that Toronto FC had clinched a playoff spot for the second straight season, Major League Soccer pulled the plug on the celebration.
The league discovered a mathematical error after “further analysis,” and it turns out the Reds haven’t quite locked up a berth after all, Dan Courtemanche, MLS vice-president of communications, told the Star Monday evening.
“We certainly regret the error and we’ve refined our process to ensure it won’t happen again,” he said.
