Fifteen teams have qualified for the 16-team Champions League, from nine CONCACAF member associations. If the Portland Timbers beat Atlanta United in the MLS Cup final on Saturday, they will earn the final spot. Otherwise, it will go to the New York Red Bulls. MLS will be represented by five teams.
Toronto finished second in this year’s tournament, losing the final on penalties to Chivas Guadalajara. The Reds played three of their four rounds against teams from Liga MX in 2018, but couldn’t draw a Mexican team in the first round of the 2019 tournament because of the pot they were placed in for the draw.
