Toronto FC coach Greg Vanney credits team’s resiliency in record-setting season

As Toronto FC coach Greg Vanney reflected on 2017 ahead of being named Major League Soccer’s coach of the year on Monday, the Reds’ boss touched on some of his team’s struggles in the midst of their historic season.

“I would reference back to the last two months. The amount of different things we’ve had going on within our groups over the last couple of months has been extraordinary and I think far more teams would’ve caved than teams that would’ve persevered through this,” Vanney said.

“Things like injuries and some of our guys not qualifying for the World Cup and the emotional hit that some of these things take; we still managed to persevere and get the results that we needed in difficult times.
