Toronto FC clinched a spot in Major League Soccer’s post-season Sunday evening for just the second time in club history.
The Reds, first in the Eastern Conference, needed just one point to secure a place in the playoffs for the second year in a row. After a poor start, two second-half goals from striker Jozy Altidore earned a 3-3 tie against the New York Red Bulls at BMO Field.
The home team was down by two after just 30 minutes of play, conceding an own goal by defender Steven Beitashour and then coughing up an easy marker to the league’s leading scorer, Bradley Wright-Phillips, off a shocking giveaway by centre back Eriq Zavaleta.
