TFC’s Pozuelo gets a shot to make amends with season on the line in the Big Apple

He scored three goals and added an assist in two regular-season games against New York City FC, but Toronto FC’s Alejandro Pozuelo can’t get past the one that got away.

The Spaniard stepped up to the penalty spot in the 78th minute in the Big Apple in September looking to break a 1-1 tie, only to be denied by New York goalkeeper Sean Johnson, who drove left and managed to get his trailing palm on Pozuelo’s shot.

The match ended in a draw, but the extra two points wouldn’t have made much difference in hindsight — the fourth-place Reds would have been a couple of points closer to the third-place Philadelphia Union in the standings.
