TFC striker Jozy Altidore pulls out of U.S.’s Nations League games

Toronto FC striker Jozy Altidore has been forced to withdraw from the United States’ upcoming CONCACAF Nations League games against Cuba and Canada because of injury, and his status for the Reds’ opening round of the playoffs is up in the air.

Altidore left Sunday’s regular-season finale between Toronto and Columbus in the 70th minute after going down awkwardly when Crew defender Jonathan Mensah slid to block a shot by Altidore just outside the six-yard box. The 29-year-old striker walked off the field on his own but had a slight limp as he entered the tunnel.

“His quad was sore in that situation,” TFC head coach Greg Vanney said after the Columbus game.
