During the two years Greg Vanney spent lining up for FC Dallas, the Reds’ boss had the ear of fellow veteran teammate Oscar Pareja.
Vanney was then a seasoned defender, whose desire to coach was already piqued by the time he joined the Texan club in 2005. It was an interest shared by Pareja, a midfielder in his last season before retirement.
Now both of them are head coaches, with Pareja, 47, in his third season with FC Dallas.
“He was a guy who, when I was there, I spent a lot of time talking to about the game,” Vanney told the Star recently.
