You’re probably aware by now that Cristiano Ronaldo was named FIFA’s Player of the Year for 2016 yesterday, with Claudio Ranieri scooping the prize for the top coach.
You may not know, however, that Toronto FC’s own Michael Bradley helped Ronaldo get there. In his role as captain of the United States men’s national team, Bradley cast votes for both of the main awards and selected Ronaldo as his top player.
He picked the eventual top three, in fact, placing Lionel Messi of Barcelona after his Real Madrid rival and choosing Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann in third.
