Jonathan David wins 2019 Canadian soccer player of the year

For the second straight year a teenager has been named as Canada Soccer’s men’s player of the year. But while 19-year-old Alphonso Davies is having a breakout season at Bayern Munich, it was fellow 19-year-old Jonathan David who was awarded this year’s honour.

This year was a record breaking one for the young striker. He tied the record for most goals in a calendar year for a Canadian with eight in international competition, while scoring a Canadian record six at the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup. As a result, he was awarded the tournament’s Golden Boot.
