In the midst of a number of major MLS trades, Toronto FC made one that would appear fairly minor. The club sent $75,000 in general allocation money and $75,000 in targeted allocation money and the number six allocation spot, for the number two allocation spot.
Because it is very hard to keep up with all of the MLS roster building mechanism, allocation order means Toronto gets the second pick of a specific group of foreign-based US and Canadian internationals. This was partially how Toronto acquired Jozy Altidore.
It could just be a move for the future, after all Toronto didn’t give up all that much.
