Canada look set to stick around at the Gold Cup for a little longer. A 1-1 draw against Costa Rica all but confirmed Octavio Zambrano’s team’s place in the quarter-finals by one means or another.

Alphonso Davies gave Canada a lead when he dashed into the box to convert a Scott Arfield pass that snuck behind the Costa Rican defence.

It was the 16-year-old’s third goal of the tournament in just two games - the joint-highest total by a Canadian at a single Gold Cup since Carlo Corazzin netted four en route to winning the trophy in 2000.
