COC's Alexander Neef marks a decade of high drama

The Canadian Opera Company’s general director plots a course for the future, with landmark works in store — including a Rufus Wainwright opera and a thrilling production of Wagner’s Parsifal with the Metropolitan Opera.

“You need to give people a good reason to leave their sofa,” says the Canadian Opera's Company General Director Alexander Neef. That includes a Canadian premiere of Wagner's Parsifal with the Metropolitan Opera.

When the Canadian Opera Company holds its annual general meeting on Monday, people will be turning, for the 10th time, to General Director Alexander Neef for results.

“It’s not so much what you do, it’s about what people think you do,” Neef says with a wry laugh.
