Toronto FC announced today that they’ve parted ways with goalkeeper Clint Irwin, who they traded to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for a second-round MLS SuperDraft pick (39th overall).
The Reds originally got Irwin from Colorado back in 2016, so his return to Denver at the age of 29 is fitting. He was a key part of the Reds’ 2016 playoff run to the MLS Cup Final, as well as the past three Canadian Championship titles.
It’s kind of impressive that TFC managed to get something in exchange for Irwin, after they declined his contract option in late November, but he remains a talented goalkeeper who should get a lot more playing time out in Denver — especially after Zac MacMath was traded to the Vancouver Whitecaps.
