Where's Martin today? Veteran gets LF start

Related Topics: Russell Martin, Veteran, Left fielder

Russell Martin is proving to be the Blue Jays' most versatile player -- at least in terms of defensive positioning. Martin is slated to start in left field for Toronto's matinee on Monday against the Red Sox at Fenway Park, which would make him the first player since the Astros' Marty Martinez in 1969 to start at least once at catcher, third base, shortstop and left field in the same season.

Martinez, however, was primarily an infielder. Martin, 35, has been a backstop in all but 24 of his 1,440 career big league starts, though he had been an infielder for much of his amateur career before making the shift to catcher.
