In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays recalled outfielder Darren Ceciliani from Triple-A Buffalo. He could assumedly handle right-field duties with fourth outfielder Ezequiel Carrera dealing with a sore right ankle. Infielder Ryan Goins replaced Bautista in right field Thursday.
An All-Star in six consecutive seasons and the lynchpin of Toronto's powerful lineup, Bautista is hitting .230/.360/.455 with 12 home runs, 41 RBIs this season. He leads the American League with 48 walks.
Ceciliani was hitting .217/.271/..283 with no home runs, nine RBIs and seven stolen bases at Triple-A. A left-handed batter, Ceciliani has the ability to play all three outfield positions.
