KANSAS CITY - This was a World Series billed as a battle pitting the young power arms of the New York Mets against the relentless, contact-happy Kansas City hitters.
It was supposed to be the epitome of that hoary old bromide “good pitching beats good hitting.”
Well, you can forget that. The Royals have never seen a fastball they didn’t love. They saw a bunch of them from young Jacob deGrom Wednesday night and didn’t miss many on their way to a 7-1 victory and a 2-0 lead in the 111th World Series.
Coming on the heels of Tuesday’s chaotic, emotional 14-inning death match in which the Royals came from behind twice on their way to a 5-4 walk-off win, this was a walk in the park for the American League champions.
