Rough patches.
Isn’t that what the Blue Jays predicted for their six rookies at different portions of the season?
Nobody thought veteran Russell Martin would reside in a rough patch, though, but here he sits, firmly lodged in his own brier patch.
This was not expected.
In four at-bats last night Martin came up empty to run his hitless streak to 0-for-21. Along the way he has struck out 10 times. He has one hit in his opening 23 at-bats.
This night his defence suffered, too.
In the fateful eighth with the game knotted 2-2, Martin bounced a throw to second into centre field allowing Steven Souza a stolen base and a free pass to third on the errant toss.
