Jays' Gibbons expects more of the same from first-base platoon

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Blue Jays manager John Gibbons laughed thinking back to a game last July 19 at the Rogers Centre.

Chris Colabello, who was playing left field, smacked a two-run home run in the fifth inning off Tampa Bay Rays’ ace Chris Archer to give the Jays a lead. Despite his hot bat, Colabello was pulled out of the game for defensive replacement Ezequiel Carrera as the Jays went on to win 4-0.

“When he came into the dugout, one of the guys — I think it was Eddie (Edwin Encarnacion) — said, ‘Way to hit yourself out of the game,’” Gibbons said, cracking up.
