He hasn't forgotten this city.
After moving back to the Japanese league this year, Munenori Kawasaki sent a Canada Day message back to Toronto this week.
“Blue Jays. ‘Go Go’ Goins, Kevin Pillar, Jose Bautista, Donaldson, Tulo, all the guys I miss. Hi guys, how are you? Good?” Kawasaki said this week during an interview with Japanese news outlet Fukuoka Now.
Kawasaki then belted out a “Jose ... Jose, Jose, Jose” chant – something that’s become a staple in recent years at the Rogers Centre.
“Kevin Pillar, you’re the best,” Kawasaki added.
