Challenges pay off for Blue Jays

Camera angles, managerial review and eagle-eyed technicians back in New York all conspired to save the Jays a run in the first.

With two out and a runner on third, power hitting Nelson Cruz hit an infield chopper over the mound. Shortstop Ryan Goins came charging in and made a nice smooth play to field the ball and fire to first. His throw, however, was off-line and pulled first baseman Justin Smoak to his left. Stretching out to make the catch, first base ump Will Little called Cruz safe believing Smoak was off the bag when he caught the ball.
