Canadian Cal Quantrill taken eighth by San Diego in MLB draft

Baseball scouts have long memories, especially when it comes to special arms, and Cal Quantrill took that to the bank Thursday night.

Even though he hasn’t pitched a baseball game in the 14 months since he underwent reconstructive surgery on his right elbow, Quantrill showed the San Diego Padres enough for the team to snap him up with the eighth overall selection in Thursday night’s first-year player draft.
