Canadian Adam Loewen returning to MLB as pitcher ... again

Adam Loewen’s baseball career has come full circle.

The Surrey, B.C., native will be called up on Friday by the Philadelphia Phillies from their triple-A affiliate, marking his first time in Major League Baseball as a pitcher since 2008.

Phillies second baseman Chase Utley, who has been on the disabled list since June 23 with right ankle inflammation, will also be activated with Loewen. Dalier Hinojosa and Jordan Danks were sent to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs to make room on the roster.

Philadelphia signed Loewen to a minor league contract in April, 2014. In 40 games in the minors this season, Loewen is 2-3 with a 2.
