Blue Jays first basemen seeking second hits

BOSTON - As they approached the 2016 season, there were issues that troubled the Blue Jays, but first base wasn't one of them.

Chris Colabello and Justin Smoak had merged into a solid semi-platoon as the 2015 season evolved. Colabello, especially, was a key part of the offence once he was called up from Buffalo at the beginning of May. By season's end, he had 333 at-bats, 107 hits, 35 of them for extra bases, including 15 homers. He drove in 54 runs and finished with an impressive OPS of .886.

Smoak, the better defender of the two, hit 18 homers, drove in 59 runs and also had 35 extra-base hits.
