The Blue Jays have lost first baseman Chris Colabello to an 80-game suspension after the veteran tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.
The team learned of the suspension Friday prior to the Major League Baseball announcement of the suspension hours before the team was to meet the Oakland Athletics.
“I love the guy, I feel for him,” Jays manager John Gibbons said. “I was his manager when he made it to the majors.”
Colabello was unavailable for comment but was to release a statement through the team.
Colabello tested positive for dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, a performance-enhancing drug, according to the statement announcing his suspension.
