ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Yankees packed their bags and, they hoped, their offense and enough healthy pitchers, and prepared to board a flight late Thursday night to Kansas City, Mo.
All in all, their season has gotten off to a successful start, but after losing their third consecutive game to Tampa Bay, 6-1, and possibly starting pitcher Chase Whitley to an elbow injury, the Yankees will not mind saying goodbye to the Rays and the rest of the American League East.
For the first six weeks of the season, it is about all they have known.
