Yankees Place Michael Pineda on Disabled List

ARLINGTON, Tex. — The Yankees’ starting rotation, already fraught with tender elbow ligaments and fragile shoulders, suffered another blow Thursday when Michael Pineda was scratched from the night’s start and placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Pineda, who missed two seasons after undergoing shoulder surgery and part of four months last season with a shoulder muscle injury, had insisted he was fine after his last start Friday in a 10-1 loss to Minnesota. Pineda has thrown 118 innings this season, 41 2/3 more than he did a year ago.

Pineda has been brilliant at times this season, which he began 5-0 after a 16-strikeout performance against Baltimore.
